Guidelines
Reordering Criteria
Why Order Matters
The order of guideline set categories and criteria affects the evaluation experience:
- Better Flow: When related questions are grouped and in a logical sequence, evaluators can focus on one area at a time.
- Reduced Cognitive Load: Jumping between unrelated topics is tiring. Logical order keeps evaluators in the right mindset.
- Consistency Across Versions: If v1 evaluations follow a specific order, keeping v2 in the same order makes comparing results easier.
Reordering Categories
Categories set the overall structure of your evaluation. Reorder them to match your workflow:
Before:
1. Visual Design
2. Navigation & Information Architecture
3. Accessibility
After (logical flow for e-commerce):
1. Navigation & Information Architecture (first impression)
2. Visual Design (design system consistency)
3. Accessibility (compliance check)How to reorder:
- Navigate to your Guideline Set
- Go to the Categories section
- Use the drag handle (⋮⋮) or arrow buttons to move categories
- Order is saved automatically
Reordering Questions
Within each category, order questions by importance or logical flow:
Navigation Category - Logical Order:
1. Can users find the search functionality within 3 seconds?
(Foundation - does search exist and is it visible?)
2. Is the main category menu showing 7 or fewer options?
(Structure - is information architecture clear?)
3. Can users understand their current location in the site?
(Context - is navigation state clear?)How to reorder:
- Within a category, find the question you want to move
- Use the chevron up and down icons found to the left of your guideline criteria.
- Changes save automatically
Best Practice
Organize your guidelines the same way across versions. If v1 asks Navigation questions first, ask them first in v2. This makes trend analysis more intuitive and ensures evaluators follow a consistent mental model across evaluations.
